Steve is a former British Army Special Forces Communications Officer with over 30 year’s active military service. He has spent his entire military career focussed on the management of complex communications, information systems and has been at the forefront of pioneering the UK’s national cyber security capabilities. His last role in the military was as the CISO for UK Special Forces Group, responsible for the delivery and support of all of the UK Special Forces information systems globally.
Steve was commissioned from the ranks having completed numerous worldwide combat operations as a Special Forces Communications Engineer. It was during this time that he developed a professional focus in cyber security and qualified as a UK Police computer forensics analyst. He established the first Joint UK/US deployed Computer Network Operations centre which successfully enabled the first deployment of cyber tools to support UK and US Special Forces operations.
After leaving the Army Steve was employed as a technical and project consultant responsible for leading a team to deliver a £150m advanced information system to the UK Ministry of Defence.
In 2010 Steve co-founded a cyber security business that developed bespoke secure mobile applications and provided specialist cyber security services and consultancy to UK Government, the Police and other commercial customers. One of the products has since been adopted by the UK National Crime Agency as their primary secure mobile platform as part of the Police modernisation programme.
Stephen remains an active computer forensics practitioner and also currently commands the Special forces “Specialised Reserve Cyber Protection Team” – the first cyber unit of its kind established within UK defence.
